WOYWW 116 & PPF25

Started a project that's been on my mind for awhile....
Inspired by Lynne Hoppe whose blog posts are always a delight!

Began with this book I found for a buck on a Saturday yard sale venture...

I knew I would be using the pages in artwork...the cover for a journal .... so started with the Letter "A" last eve....

A smear of gesso on the "A" pages then toted colored pencils and sharpie poster paints to the bedroom where I played around before drifting off to dreamland...
Meet "Agnes"!  I like seeing all the "A" words and those little mice that appeared in her hair...I even like her unique nose:)
"Agatha" will be joining her soon as her page partner tonight right before dreamland....pretty sure she'll have her own unique features too..

Remains....

"The tide recedes, but leaves behind bright seashells in the sand. The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers in the land. The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains... For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains."

The Journal Comes Together

Riveted canvas boards I'm using as book covers....

Actually, it's a hole punched in the canvas and the rivet glued in since the canvas was thicker than the rivet...

Those other tiny holes will be for beads and wire...maybe...

Punched and riveted my palette pages (more about those here)....
You can see my handy little template for hole punching and the tool I used...

And voila......

"Q" is for "Quinacridone" via Mary Beth Shaw style

Today is Jenny's Alphabe-Thursday featuring the letter "Q".....
Worked out perfectly since I'd planned to post about Mary Beth Shaw's Color Class I took at Art Unraveled in Phoenix Arizona last week...

The Delightful Queen of Energy Mary Beth's class desquiption:

"When I started painting, I had a lot of trouble mixing good color. I had heard it was all about red/yellow/blue, yet when I tried using them it seemed like I always made mud, which was really frustrating. This is the class that I wish someone had taught to me. Join me as we cut to the chase; I'll show you three different sets of primary colors that produce very different palette options, hence three totally diverse "moods" of color.
No matter what your level as a painter, you are sure to find a palette you love, plus it is so rewarding to mix color and watch the beauty unfold before your eyes. After we have worked with all three palettes, you will have a chance to paint book covers for a uniquely personal color reference tool that you will use for years to come. I will share tons of tips to help you keep it simple so you can depend on clean, clear color - every single time."

So True!!!  I hate making MUD! ... Wasting Paint ... And I'm tired of trying to BUY that perfect color, rather than learn how to mix it on my own....

The Triads:

One of my color palette play pages:

Quinacridone Magenta, Hansa Yellow Light, Phthalo Blue
HaPPy CoLorS!  Began by mixing a bit O two colors and adding varied amounts of white, then black then the third color....  Music and Paint Slinging are required in Mary Beth's class!

Another palette:  Quinacridone Crimson, Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold, Turquoise (Phthalo)

I chose to chop the palette page into squares, etc and glue them onto canvas paper....
Here's the page opened...(My squares kept multiplying)....

Mary Beth shared her pages done in this manner....
Also more info in her book you can find here....

***Next post will be about putting it all together in a JournaL....***

Quick - before you forget -  visit more "Q" posts at Jenny's:)

WOYWW 114

More from yesterday's post about this piece I made at Art Unraveled taught by the amazing Jen Cushman......

Easy peasy open backed bezel made with paper, a charm and Ice Resin mixed with glitter...

Don't know if you can see the bubble?
Can easily fix it by drilling into it with a dremel tool, then refilling with resin...If I wanna...

I made the bail too....
"annealed" metal with a torch, formed it around a dowel, drilled with a dremel....
(I'm no longer a torch/dremel virgin = tool shopping later  Thanks to JEN!)

We made "resin paper" with the Ice Resin - then rolled into beads for our necklaces......

We made all of our headpins, connections and Jen shared her coveted rosary bead purchase with the class too....
She's the BEST!

The other side of the bezel....
My text did not get completed immersed....

But no worries....
Just add more Ice Resin!

I'll be busy "resinating" with some of that great paper my husband brought back from Taiwan
(soon to be included in my Collage Candy Kits),
and bought Jen's book for quick reference you can find here along with her teaching schedule and lots more info on this technique too....

In the meantime, have fun exploring other Wednesday workdesks around the world hosted by Julia at The Stamping Ground and tomorrow I'll post about the class I took with Mary Beth Shaw:)
